Top 5 Tech Buzzwords of 2020

As the modern tech world is changing more and more, it's easy to fall behind the times. The solution? Keep up with technology by gaining a basic understanding!

A new decade calls for a lot more technological innovation. We may not know what is in store for us, but what we can do is sum up some techology buzzwords that will be used this year.

AI

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is perhaps one of the more prominent words for 2020.
In a nutshell, AI is a development on a computer system that allows it to perform tasks that would typically only be able to be done by human intelligence. A machine can now perform any behavior that was associated with a human such as planning, learning, problem-solving, perception, etc. A key thing to remember with artificial intelligence is that it can learn from experience to do something more accurately and efficiently.
Need a real-life example of AI, and how is it changing our future? Look at Tesla and their self-driving car that is potentially going to take over the market. The self-driving cars learn from the surrounding environment and store data in its network to understand situations and the proper measure to take.

Machine learning

Machine learning is a type of artificial intelligence. Machine learning is just as it sounds,, computer programs learn from the new data they have collected without being told to do so.
Another real-life example: Facebook uses machine learning to understand you and your profile to tailor your newsfeed specifically to what it believes are your interests based on your actions.

Chat bot

Remember when you used to go on Microsoft word and the infamous paperclip would popup with tips to help? That was one of the first developed chatbots.
Chat bots are used in many instant messaging programs to offer basic help and support to customers.

Internet of Things

Without a doubt, you’ve heard the buzzword: Internet of things (IOT). Okay, but what does that mean? It is a rather vague name given to the large and growing number of “smart” devices that are connected to (you guessed it)  the internet! Cellphones, smart speakers, coffeemakers, thermostats and pretty much household appliance you can think of these days. They are all devices capable of being connected to the Internet of Things. More specifically, IoT is the data that all these devices use and produce and the seamless flow from one device to another.
Don’t worry; you’ll be forgiven if you don’t immediately understand the meaning of the term, as the extreme range of devices and how they operate is mindboggling.

Virtual Reality

VR is one of the more recent terms in the wonderful world of technology. Virtual reality is an artificial environment that is created with software and presented to a user in such a way that the person actually believes and accepts what they are seeing is a real environment.
An obvious example is the VR headsets that have become popular tech toys lately. Once you put on the headset, you are placed into a simulation that feels like a real environment only to you.
